Andrew Merrick

Vice Chair

Andrew has experience in a range of different sectors having started his career with HSBC. Most recently he has worked for Dart Group PLC (owners of Jet2.com) and Irwin Mitchell LLP, a national full service law firm, prior to that he spent nine years at Bradford & Bingley. Andrew is FCMA and ACIB qualified. He grew up in Warwickshire but now lives in Yorkshire. Andrew is a member of the Risk Committee and chairs the Audit & Compliance Committee. In June 2019, having retired from full time roles, he joined the Board of Yorkshire Water Limited, where he also chairs the Audit Committee.

Jon Fox

Senior Independent Director

Jon has over 30 years’ experience in retail financial services and is a former executive director of the Royal Bank of Scotland. His most recent role was as the Head of Private Banking for the brands of RBS, NatWest, Drummond’s and Child & Co, prior to which he was the Managing Director for NatWest Branch Banking in England and Wales. Jon is a member of the Risk and Nominations Committees and chairs the Remuneration Committee. He is also a member of the Institute of Management Services. Jon joined the Board in 2015.

Lindsay Forster

Non-Executive Director

Lindsay is currently CEO of Shepper, a tech business which empowers communities of local people to deliver real-time insights to clients. Prior to that, much of Lindsay’s experience has been in the financial services sector, holding leadership roles with Aviva, Friends Life, Halifax, Lloyds Bank and prior to that, the automotive sector. She has 25 years’ experience of leading large teams to drive change with assignments in marketing, procurement and business development. She joined the Board in August 2019 and is a member of the Society’s Risk and Remuneration Committees. Lindsay lives in Buckinghamshire and has a passion for food, architecture and design, and more recently, running.

Zoe Shapiro

Non-Executive Director

Zoe is currently Chief Risk Officer for Phoenix Group’s Open Division. She has previously held senior risk positions with Prudential UK. She has experience in developing and implementing risk frameworks and leading regulatory compliance. Zoe is married with two children and lives in Cambridgeshire. She joined the Board in February 2016, chairs the Society’s Risk Committee and is a member of the Audit & Compliance and Nominations Committees.

David Stunell

Non-Executive Director

David is an independent banking consultant, having ended his full-time career in 2019. His last executive post was as CFO at WiZink Bank in Spain, prior to which he held Treasurer and other leadership roles at RBS, Lloyds TSB, Anglo Irish Bank, and Portman and Cheltenham & Gloucester Building Societies. He is currently Chief Finance & Operating Officer at the Asset & Liability Management Association Limited and a Non-Executive Director at King & Shaxson Limited. David is a Fellow of the Association of Corporate Treasurers (FCT) and an Associate of the London Institute of Banking & Finance (ACIB). He is married with two grown-up daughters and lives in Hertfordshire. David joined the Board in December 2020 and is chair of the Assets & Liabilities Committee and a member of the Audit & Compliance and Remuneration Committees.

Nala Worsfold

Non-Executive Director

Nala has over 20 years’ experience in financial services, from bank audits at KPMG to senior roles at NatWest Group and UK Finance, where she is currently Principal, Financial & Risk Policy. Her most recent role at NatWest Group was Head of Risk Developments encompassing finance, treasury, and risk. She is a member of the Audit, Risk & Evaluation Committee at Microbiology Society. Nala lives in Surrey with her husband and son. She joined the Board in December 2020 and is a member of the Audit & Compliance, Assets & Liabilities and Risk Committees. Nala is also chair of the Pension & Life Assurance Scheme.

Iain KIRKPATRICK

Chief Executive

Iain joined the Society as Chief Executive in September 2022. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Banking Institute and holds a number of professional qualifications. He has a wide range of financial services experience, most recently as Chief Customer Officer at the Nottingham Building Society and before that as the Retail Managing Director, Metro Bank and Head of Private Banking at Lloyds. He is married and lives with his family in Buxton, Derbyshire.

Nick Fielden

Chief Finance Officer

Nick qualified as a Chartered Accountant (ACA) with KPMG and spent some time in management consultancy before joining HSBC. He spent 13 years with HSBC and then six years working with ‘challenger’ banks in the role of Finance Director. Nick was appointed as Finance Director of the Society in 2013. He has overall responsibility for finance, treasury and liquidity risk as well as the IT and business change teams. He is married and lives with his family in Leicestershire.

 

Annie Cossar

Chief Customer officer

Annie has over 25 years’ experience in financial services, having worked in senior roles for numerous banks, including running large contact centres for HSBC and operational learning & development teams for Barclays. She also spent five years as a performance coach, trainer and business consultant. In 2016, she joined MHBS as their Mortgage Processing Lead until she was appointed Head of Operations, a position she held for five years. She was promoted to Director Customer Experience in 2022 and was appointed to her current role as Chief Customer Officer in 2023. She has overall responsibility for customer experience and colleague engagement and is also the Society’s advocate & lead for Consumer Duty. She is married and lives in Staffordshire with her husband.
