Receive £500 towards improving your property’s energy rating
We’re delighted to offer MHBS landlords up to £500 for any works completed that improve their property’s Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating by at least one band, to a minimum of C rating.
Our new £500 Greener Living Reward is designed to help you take steps to ensuring your property becomes more energy efficient and cost efficient sooner. The initiative forms part of our recently launched Thrive Agenda as we all strive to be environmentally friendly for a more sustainable future.
It’s also just one of the ways that we’re helping you prepare for planned government regulation that will see tighter restrictions applied to the energy performance of rental properties. We’ve outlined the planned changes below. To find out more about what an EPC is, visit the government’s page.
What are the proposed EPC regulatory changes?
The current proposal means that from 31 December 2028, all rental properties will need an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of C or above. Once the regulation has been finalised we’ll confirm this to you. Currently, properties require a rating of ‘e’ or higher.
£500 Greener Living Reward
We’re offering £500 towards your home improvements! Just follow these steps:
- If you have a current EPC, tell us your rating at mhbs.co.uk/epc1 or arrange a free EPC by clicking the button at the top of this page. To check your property’s current EPC rating, visit the government's Energy Performance of Buildings Register and type in your postcode.
- Use your EPC report recommendations to make energy efficiency improvements to your property.
- After the works, we'll arrange an updated EPC to confirm the property rating has improved by at least one band to C or above. What's more, we'll cover the cost of the new EPC too!
- Your reward payment will be sent directly to the account your mortgage payments are paid from.
- If you have more than one property mortgaged with us, you can claim £500 per property!
Frequently asked questions
Yes, the reward can be used on any security property mortgaged with MHBS.
Yes. Although EPCs are currently valid for ten years, we’re offering the chance to receive an updated EPC if your current certificate is older than five years.
Yes, the Reward is currently available for all security properties mortgaged with MHBS. The initiative is currently available on rental properties only. A maximum of £500 is available per property.
You can claim up to a maximum £500 for the works completed. There is no minimum spend.
Your claim for up to £500 should be submitted within one calendar year of your initial EPC being completed.
