Under 18s Privacy Policy

We want to help you look after your money. To do this, we need to collect and use your “personal data”. “Personal data” is information that is specifically about you as a person and includes things like:

  • Your name
  • Your address
  • Your date of birth
  • Nationality
  • Your email address
  • Your contact number
  • Identification documents, like your passport or birth certificate.

We take your personal data seriously and work hard to keep it safe. There are laws and rules we must follow to make sure your data is protected. This means we take steps to stop it from being lost, stolen, or damaged.

We collect data about you when your account is opened or when you use our services. Your parent or guardian may give us data, too, if they open an account for you. Even if your parent or guardian has given us your data, you can ask to see this whenever you want.

We do this so we can:

  • Know that it’s really you when you get in touch with us.
  • Make sure you can manage your account with us.
  • Keep your money safe from fraud (where people may want to trick you out of your money).
  • Follow the rules about looking after your money.
  • Give you the best service we can and make sure you’re happy with us looking after your money.

We always need to have a good reason for using your data – it’s called a ‘legal basis’ and can be because:

  • we need to follow the rules about looking after your money.
  • we believe it’s the right thing to do and it’s fair to you.
  • you’ve agreed for us to use it, for example by opening an account or using our services.

We’ll keep your information for as long you have your account with us, plus another six years in case you want to get in touch with us again.

Some types of data have more rules about when and how we can use them, and this is called “special category” data. We will only use this data if you say that it’s okay, or if the law says we have to.

For example, that could be things like asking for information about your health, so we can make sure your account and services work for you.

Yes! You can ask to see your personal data whenever you want, it’s one of your rights.

You can ask:

  • to see a copy of any of the data that we hold about you.
  • us to stop doing something with your data.
  • to delete your data when we don’t need it anymore.
  • us to correct something that’s wrong.

You can ask us by speaking to someone in one of our branches, on the phone or visit mhbs.co.uk. We have a longer version of our privacy notice at mhbs.co.uk/privacy-policy if you, your parent or guardian would like to read in more detail about how we collect and use your personal data.
