Local Charities – Get 2019 off to a good start

We’ve started our search for charities and local groups needing support in 2019 and want to hear from you.

Since it began, Market Harborough Building Society’s Charitable Foundation has awarded over £200,000 in grants to over 300 good causes. Applications for grants are now invited from local groups who would like a helping hand from the Foundation in 2019.

Supporting our local community

In the past two years, 17 different causes have received funding for much-needed projects to benefit their users and the local community. Recently, the Foundation awarded £2,000 to Gretton Parents’ School Association, which helped them to buy a playground shelter for the schoolchildren to use whatever the weather. In 2018 £890 was awarded to Leicester South Food Bank, so that new shelving could be provided in their centre in Wigston, Leicestershire. Grants have also been given for a wide variety of items including a storage shed for a girlguiding group and money towards a new kitchen for a local village hall.

Could you benefit from a grant?

The Charitable Foundation, run by a board of independent trustees, offers grants of £250 to £5,000 to local causes who could benefit from funding. If you represent a local charity or voluntary group within the region of Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland, you can apply for one of our grants throughout the year. The funds should be needed for a specific capital project or for investment in people, such as training.

Ready to apply?

We’re welcoming applications for 2019 ahead of our next Trustee meeting in March. The Charitable Foundation’s Trustees meet quarterly to assess applications received.

So, if you’d like to apply on behalf of your local charity or voluntary group simply head to our Charitable Foundation page and complete the simple steps towards making an application. If your application fulfills our Grant-making Policy then it will be reviewed by the Trustees at their next meeting.

If you need any further information, you can get in touch by emailing the Foundation’s Secretary at charity@mhbs.co.uk
