MHBS is proud to have supported Alzheimer’s Society, our Charity of the Year 2019
We’ve been so proud to support Alzheimer’s Society throughout 2019 and we are delighted to announce that we raised over £2,500 for this great cause by holding numerous events from cake sales to dress-down days. There was rarely a week that went by where our team members weren’t participating in some form of charitable activity!
We also raised money through community events such as our Christmas Tree Lights Switch On, which was held in The Square in Market Harborough at the end of November.
Last year, we changed the way we donate to charity, so we asked our members to vote for the cause that they thought deserved to be our Charity of the Year 2019. MHBS team members initially selected several charities that they believed to be great causes. The vote was then put to our members to decide the overall winner; Alzheimer’s Society.
Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading dementia charity, working tirelessly to challenge perceptions, fund research and improve and provide care and support. They can provide direct one-to-one support either over the phone or in person, by local teams or nationally through the Dementia Helpline. The charity’s online community, Talking Point, is for people with dementia, their family, friends and carers to ask questions, share experiences and get advice and support from each other.
On Tuesday 10 December, Heidi Wilkinson from Alzheimer’s Society visited Market Harborough Building Society to meet the team and discuss our partnership over a cup of tea.
Heidi, Community Fundraiser for Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, said: “Alzheimer’s Society wants everyone affected by dementia to know that whoever you are, whatever you are going through, you can turn to us for support, help and advice.
“We’re delighted that MHBS members originally chose Alzheimer’s Society as the charity to fundraise for. There are more than 10,000 people living with dementia across Leicestershire – a figure set to rise to more than 14,500 in the next 10 years.
“I want to thank everyone who got behind this Charity of the Year and helped contribute to the overall amount. For every pound raised will help us to provide information and support, improve care, fund research, and create lasting change for people affected by dementia.”
We’re thrilled to have supported such a great cause with our members and hope that the money we raised together will help the UK’s leading dementia charity in their vision for a world without dementia.
